86 years of the November pogroms – 35 years of the Peaceful Revolution and the fall of the Berlin Wall
November 9 is a difficult date because joy and suffering in these extremes are simply impossible to grasp. What unites the historical events is the question of freedom and responsibility. “Then as now, our everyday actions show how we stand up for humanity and democracy,” says curator Eva von Schirach. “Our actions make a difference,” adds Marlén Reinke.
The play STONES by Christian Wolff will be performed. Wolff’s parents are the publishing couple Kurt and Helen Wolff (Kurt Wolff published Franz Kafka, among others). Christian Wolff was born in Nice in 1934 while fleeing the Nazis, and the family emigrated to America in 1940. STONES is a classic of New Music, an expressionist musical style closely associated with the composer John Cage, among others. Wolff’s composition is based on an “open score” that ends with the simple instruction: do not break anything.
The concert will take place on 9.11.2024 at 6 pm.
There is a workshop for all those who want to play on Sat 9.11. on Sunday, 3.11. 24 from 15:30 – 17:30 pm. Meeting point: Samariterkirche, Samariterstraße
Further information about the exhibition can be found on the website of the organiser Planet Gug Gug.
Mir fällt ein Stein vom Herzen is PART of STEINFALL – a series of events dealing with democracy as everyday action in the context of 9 November. STONES is a co-operation between the Protestant Pentecostal Church Parish, the Samaritan Resurrection Parish and the MACHmit! museum for children.
