School of Dictators is more than a warning: it shows what happens when manipulation, power play and contempt for humanity become the raison d’être of the state, and human existence is controlled as in a strategy game in which the winners are those who have no qualms about turning lies into truth. Written under the impression of the dictatorships of the first half of the 20th century, this extraordinary and singular play is a study of the lack of empathy as a basic prerequisite for turning the population into a pawn and keeping a perpetuum mobile of power running, in which people are interchangeable and only reduced to their utility value. The Ballhaus Prinzenallee, with its team of directors and ensemble of actors, develops a choreographic and playful production that finds new images scene by scene, showing the seriousness in the absurdity and the satire in the real. And since this absolutely relevant and topical subject affects us all, it is particularly logical that the production’s ensemble is made up of trained actors, playful citizens and youth club players.
