Around 1.4 million refugees and emigrants from the GDR arrived at the Marienfelde emergency reception camp between 1953 and 1990. Since 1964, repatriates from Eastern Europe have also been accommodated here. Today, the well-preserved complex serves as a temporary home for refugees from all over the world and as a museum.

Special topic “Marienfelde 1989”

The upheavals in the year the Wall came down were also reflected in the Marienfelde emergency reception center. Back then, more people arrived here than at any time since the Wall was built in 1961. Accompanied by two contemporary witnesses from the former GDR and Kazakhstan, a guided tour follows in the footsteps of these events.

The special tours take place on two dates:
November 2, 2:30-4 pm
November 10, 11 am-12:30 pm
