November 9, 2024 will not only mark the 35th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, but also the 100th anniversary of the Colosseum Filmtheater on Schönhauser Allee in Berlin’s Prenzlauer Berg district. To mark this very special anniversary, Berliners were invited to submit their photos of “Life on Schönhauser Allee from 1955 to 1999”. The resulting photo exhibition is now moving to the Colosseum Filmtheater, where it will be permanently integrated into the wall design of the historic foyer. As an anniversary highlight, the previously unreleased film “Colosseum -ÜberLeben eines Berliner Kinos” from 1998 by Marie-Ulrike Callenius will be shown.
The building that houses the Colosseum Filmtheater dates back to 1892. Originally built for the Große Berliner Pferde-Eisenbahn, the now hundred-year history of the Colosseum Filmtheater as a film screening and entertainment facility began here in 1924.
