Music: Gerhild sings! 12:00 – 12:20
Songs from the Berlin Wall
In 1989, a 20-year-old woman named Gerhild sat with her guitar on the Wall and sang songs while the lighters swayed below her. Performance: Be loud – “Women for Peace”, 12:40 – 13:00
Theater performance about a different perspective – how women mobilized, dared and did things.
The performance SEID DOCH LAUT (tr. BE LOUD) was created as part of a collective effort under the direction of Alexandra Finder. It explores the story of the 1980s GDR opposition group known as “Frauen für den Frieden” (Women for Peace), which courageously campaigned against the GDR regime in favour of social change. This theatre piece takes place beyond the walls of traditional theatre buildings. In fact, the creative FLINTA team behind SEID DOCH LAUT occupies former sites of repression, such as the Stasi Headquarters in Berlin and the Bautzner Straße Memorial in Dresden. Five GDR-born actresses will draw on testimonies provided by the brave peace activists and weave these accounts into their own personal experiences as well as archive material and songs. Together with a musician, the actresses will move in and among the audience, who will thus find themselves at the very centre of the event. By visualising this unique history of opposition, the creative team will show what women dared to do and what they accomplished, thereby calling attention to the many contemporary, women-led uprisings around the world.
