In the fall of 1989, the Peaceful Revolution in the GDR ended more than forty years of SED dictatorship. On November 4, 1989, thousands of people took to the streets in Potsdam to demand their freedom. Among other things, they demanded freedom of speech, travel and the press, free elections and freedom for political prisoners. To mark the 35th anniversary, the Lindenstraße Memorial Foundation and the state capital of Potsdam will commemorate the significance of this date and the values of the Peaceful Revolution, above all freedom and democracy, on November 4, 2024.

At 3 p.m., a dialogical city tour with contemporary witness Hans-Georg Baaske will start from the Lindenstraße Memorial to Luisenplatz, the site of the major demonstration onNovember 4, 1989.

At 4:30 p.m., Dr. Hagen Wegewitz, Chairman of the Potsdam City Council, will open the workshop exhibition “Passt mir nicht! Political posters by young people”.

At 5 p.m., Dr. Peter Ulrich Weiß (LAkD) will guide visitors through the exhibition module “Democracy – now or never!” at the Lindenstraße Memorial.
